RECREATION GROUP SUPPORTS MANAGED ACCESS FOR OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES

Senate Committee to Hold Hearing

The U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a June 5 hearing “to receive testimony regarding off-highway vehicle (OHV)
management on public lands.” In response to the announcement, Americans for
Responsible Recreational Access (ARRA) restated its support for responsible
OHV recreation on public lands and encouraged OHV enthusiasts to contact
their Senators.

ARRA Executive Director Larry Smith said, “We appreciate the Committee
taking the time to consider OHV recreation and look forward to the
opportunity to work with Committee Members on OHV management issues.”

He continued, “ARRA supports managed, responsible recreation and we hope the
Committee will use this hearing as an opportunity to highlight examples of
successful OHV management principles like those used in establishing the
Paiute Trail (UT) and the Hatfield-McCoy (WV) trail system.”

Smith also noted that the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Bureau of Land
Management (BLM) are undergoing processes intended to provide increased
management for OHV use. “Both the USFS and the BLM are undertaking processes
to designate routes and areas open for OHV use. ARRA supports these efforts
and we are working with the agencies and enthusiasts to help ensure that the
ultimate results are managed, sustainable and enjoyable systems of OHV
trails.”

Lastly, Smith encouraged OHV enthusiasts to get involved. “There are
millions of responsible OHV enthusiasts in America and it is important that
they weigh in with their Senators prior to June 5. If you enjoy OHV
recreation on public lands, contact your Senator and let him or her know how
important access is to you.”
